Guardian (SJ)You are sensible, down to earth, and goal oriented. Bottom line, you are good at playing by the rules. You tend to be dominant – and you are a natural leader. A hard worker, you give your all at whatever you do. In love, you tend to take things carefully and slowly. At work, you are suited to almost any career – but you excel in leadership positions. With others, you tend to be polite and formal. As far as looks go, you are traditionally attractive. You take good care of yourself. On weekends, you tend to like to do organized activities. …i gained a brother-in-law.

it was soooo beautiful and touching. i’ve been waiting a loong time for this to happen. and i almost blubbered when my sis and dad walked down the aisle but managed to keep it to a minimum(chin quivering and eyes tearing). yes. i be the emo one.

i was a lil glad when the church service was over because it meant that the opportunities to cry would be stopped.
big thanks to ros, eleta, zhen and jaya for coming for the church wedding=)
the dinner was held at the meritus mandarin. despite already having pre-booked online, the service at the front-desk was sloow and sluggish. it didn’t help that we were already LATE due to the massive traffic jam caused by weekend crowds and the pouring rain.
so paiseh cos my MUA Cherlyn and her friend Lydia(who was there to help because there were 4 of us to do)was already there.
anyway, just to let you guys know that if you ever need a MUA, Cherlyn’s very good. i was already convinced mostly by the pictures she posted up on her blog but having personally have her do my hair and makeup affirms my convictions

apologies for only posting up the side view, does not do justice to cherlyn’s work but unfortunately alot of my zilian shots involve me grinning like a chesire cat so uh maybe i’ll post the rest in friendster or something.
am extremely happy and tired.
my brother-in-law(officially at last!) was so funny. at first i wanted to take pictures with him AND my sis. he didnt know, figuring that i must’ve been wanting to take pics only with my beloved sis. i told him “but you’re my real brother in law now!” and he went “oh” and stepped back in.
he’s still addressing my dad as ‘uncle’. but tried to correct himself later on in the night.
“hi! uh….dad!”
well its alright. he’ll spend the rest of his life being my dad’s son-in-law. plenty of time to practice.
had to make a few paper gingerbreadmen for sunday school. decided to have fun with them at the same time.

first i lined them up in rows…

got inspired to do one about World Peace

whee! let’s start off with the small pyramids first!

and now the big one!

and of course this one was done because Christmas is coming
Question 1: When do you know you’ve gone over the edge?
Answer : When you somehow manage to guess what ‘terminal illness’ the lead female actress of a Korean Movie is suffering from.
Question 2 : When do you realise the reason behind why your friends(esp fellow females) are embarassed to be caught watching movies with you?
Answer : Whenever a character dies/gets injured/is in pain and you start laughing hysterically.

watched A Millionaire’s First Love on dvd with a friend.
[don't continue reading this segment if you plan on watching the movie]
of course, the girl had some tragic illness. in her case, it was hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. it was very obvious which of the two leads was the one that was going to die by the way she kept clutching at her heart and the numerous hospital admissions. so at one point of the movie i absentmindedly thought to myself that she must be suffering from some form of heart disease and the word cardiomyopathy came into mind.
true enough the doctors revealed to the guy the girl’s diagnosis and i was busy whooping with joy about how i managed to guess it right.
yeah i resisted the urge to laugh when she died cos her death scene wasn’t the long drawn-out kind where everybody sobs for like 10 minutes and her head slumps to one side when she says her last words, takes last breath and dies kinda thing.

also watched Step Up with another friend and this is where Question No.2 comes into play.
[yet again, don't read if you plan on watching the movie yah?]
the main supporting cast consists of these two brothers who are the lead’s “homies”. so the skinny little brother(aptly nicknamed ‘skinny’) got shot after he tried to steal some bad-ass gangster’s SUV. the timing was sooo absurdly short can. he steals the car, drives off with it and just within 2 minutes of screen time the fella he stole from manages to catch up and shoot him down.
so he dies rather quickly, leaving his brother and the lead crying like babies over his dead body. this scene set off alot of giggles from me. i think the couple in front of me were mad at me. and the girl in the same row was amazed. and my friend was left wanting to hide her face somewhere.
don’t get me wrong. i’m not one devoid of sympathy. its just that some of the sad scenes in movies are a lil too exaggerated, and its purely fiction so whats there NOT to laugh at?
-ahem-
do remind me to stop laughing when others are visibly distressed by the character’s passing/me laughing too loudly

i’ve done a major revamp and clean-up to the blog. layout(that’s not permanent, but whatever!) and categories all organised! deleted quite a few old entries dating back to june2004 too.
there’s now a whole truckload of categories but its not necessary to peruse thru everything in detail.
sister’s wedding is next week and i have yet to find a MUA for my younger sister, mom and i. which is bad. i think. or maybe not. i don’t know. we’ll see.

Sometimes, a hug is all what we need. Free hugs is a real life controversial story of Juan Mann, A man whose sole mission was to reach out and hug a stranger to brighten up their lives. In this age of social disconnectivity and lack of human contact, the effects of the Free Hugs campaign became phenomenal.
As this symbol of human hope spread accross the city, police and officials ordered the Free Hugs campaign BANNED. What we then witness is the true spirit of humanity come together in what can only be described as awe inspiring.
In the Spirit of the free hugs campaign, PASS THIS TO A FRIEND and HUG A STRANGER! After all, If you can reach just one person…
Notice the layout change? well you would, if you visited my blog regularly.
[now let me pause to stifle the giggles]
its not very fancy since
1) i can’t do photoshop
2) i used picasa
3) i got irritated after 2-3 tries
4) there weren’t many images that i could resize to look half-decent
yup. there you have it. with blogspot it could’ve been a bit more fancy but i’ll just leave this be.
do you know that the Thais are encouraged to wear yellow in honor of their king’s 60th year of ascension to the throne? they even have official polo tees/t-shirts with the royal insignia on it. pretty cool idea and its heartening to see so many people wear the tee
of course, it wasn’t a day in the park for me when the air stewards and stewardesses in the plane thought i was thai just because i was in yellow and it was a monday -_-”
i went to bangkok. it was fun. the fun parts were when i started spending money and buying stuff. which made me smile. and smile some more. heh.

yes even Ronald McDonald is Thai so he greets you in the traditional thai way, hands together with a slight bow.
thai customer service is impeccable. my sis, cousin and i went to this cafe and were floored by the fantastic service. they cleared plates fast, took our orders without complaint and thanked us for everything. to think that the bill came up to $12 total for the 3 of us.

this is the famous Four Faced Buddha that has devotees from all over the world coming to pay respects to it. well since i’m not a Buddhist i didn’t go in but i thought that taking pictures would be lovely.

bangkok traffic. i love the hot pink taxis. don’t have a picture of it. their taxi drivers drive like they are race car drivers. really fast but you feel like you’re on some amusement ride.

stuff i bought! spent approximately 2800baht. which is er…not alot? the dress was one of my best buys. don’t know where i’m gonna wear it though. hmmm.
[UPDATE : THEY SEIZED THE SENATE AS WELL ! ! ! do i hear a woohoo? oh wait. its me going WOOHOO!!!i'm sorry. i just don't like george bush.]
yeahhh!!! yes i know i don’t have much business being so happy about this since i’m not a citizen of USA but but but i’m still happy!!!
and now people are more receptive to the idea of a woman speaker so maybe Hilary Clinton might be able to usurp Bush(fine i know that Bush legally can’t hold office again but let me say whatever i want to okay?)! haha.
anyway the democrats got back their groove due to the tainted reputations of many republicant leaders
america now has to vote with their heads! lol.
one of the biggest embarassments yet for them has to be Ted Haggard who is widely known as one of the most influential leaders in USA Christianity and a firm supporter of the republicant party.
its still NOT over yet at this time but whatever happens..well…que sera sera.
today’s my birthday!
wholivesnearyou.com wished me a happy 76th birthday so that’s how old i must really be! why i never qualify for senior citizen discounts ah??? heh heh heh.
anyways i long ago gave up the idea of making birthdays seem like the most important thing in the world. saw this posted up in friendster and thought it really made a ton of sense. some of you may have read it before, but there’s nothing like learning a valuable lesson again
$20.00
Sometimes we just need to be reminded!
A well-known speaker started off his seminar by holding up a $20.00 bill. In the room of 200, he asked,
“Who would like this $20 bill?”
Hands started going up.He said,
“I am going to give this $20 to one of you.But first, let me do this.”
He proceeded to crumple up the $20 dollar bill.He then asked,
“Who still wants it?”
Still the hands were up in the air.Well, he replied,
“What if I do this?”
And he dropped it on the ground and started to grind it into the floor with his shoe.He picked it up, now crumpled and dirty.
“Now, who still wants it?”
Still the hands went into the air.
“My friends, we have all learned a very valuable lesson. No matter what I did to the money, you still wanted it because it did not decrease in value.
It was still worth $20.Many times in our lives,we are dropped, crumpled, and ground into the dirt by the decisions we make and the circumstances that come our way.We feel as though we are worthless. But no matter what has happened or what will happen, you will never lose your value.
Dirty or clean, crumpled or finely creased, you are still priceless to those who DO LOVE you.The worth of our lives comes not in what we do or who we know, but by WHO WE ARE.
You are special. Don’t EVER forget it.”
If you do not pass this on, you may never know the lives it touches, the hurting hearts it speaks to,or the hope that it can bring.
Count your blessings, not your problems. If God brings you to it – He will bring you through it.

okay here’s a very bad blurry picture of Parachute Band’s pastor handing over the mike to my church’s senior pastor. and in the background is the band itself. yes. bad photo-taking. but there was good worship because we have a Fantastic God. so there
after church, went to meet my nursing clique, who have very bad ways of trying to disguise the fact that they want to celebrate my birthday in advance. but the intention was very sweet lahs i love them all! =D
we watched DOA cos it was the only movie at bedok cinema that was at 3pm-ish. i kept laughing at all the wrong moments. but guys will surely love this movie. we just found it so-so.
went to K-Box after that! sang for 4 hours and stuffed ourselves with food for 3. yes. buffet style. couldn’t resist the food.

wondering why the group pictures look so awkward? i used timer and had to run like crazy to get back with the rest to pose
as you guys know(or don’t), i’m now part of the first-aid ministry in church.
our motto is “no business is good business”. nah i’m just kidding. but it is true! who wants to fall sick on sundays?
so imagine my glee when i received an email from one of the church staff with the official line-up of events for tommorow’s service…
and saw my name in it under hospitality.
made me feel so honoured because i didn’t think that i would receive this kind of email considering the fact that if nothing medically-related happened i would be just attending service as per normal.
everybody is important in church and there’s no such thing as insignificant, y’all !
went to Meritus Mandarin hotel for my sis’s wedding dinner tasting session. basically it was a 9-course meal served in itty-bitty portions for us(mainly my sis and bro-in-law) to try out and critique. i didn’t care. i was just there for the free food

1st row (L-R) Suckling Pig, Shark’s Fin, Chicken
2nd row(L-R)Scallops, Garoupa, Abalone
3rd row(L-R)Duck, Lotus Leaf Rice, Mashed Taro
i was fine with all the food. except for the dessert. and i had two bowls of shark’s fin thanks to my sis -_-” so filling!

and this is what i did to pass time. my younger sis took the pictures.
discrimination
[be warned : lilien warns you gravely this is a long and perhaps incoherent post. lilien is not from JC therefore she cannot write GP standard essays. lilien advises you to read only if you are suffering from boredomitis. lilien is also talking in third-party speak because she has been influenced by the characters Izzie and Alex from Grey's Anatomy. ]
i just saw an ex-classmate’s photo on somerandomwebsite and i started laughing like crazy. i tried closing my eyes, breathing in and out(relaxation techniques lah!) but the moment i opened my eyes and saw the same picture again, i knew i tak boleh tahan so i closed the browser tab and went somewhere else.
what is it about a person that makes him/her attractive/appealing? do you focus more on the physical or the spiritual/mental aspect? as humans, i daresay most(if not all) of us focus greatly on the physical until time spent with the person reveals more which may or may not force us to look into the spiritual/mental aspects.
let me tell you the real reason why i laughed at said ex-classmate’s photo.
firstly, according to worldly standards, she/he wouldn’t be considered attractive at all. thankfully(or not) for him/her, she/he actually finds him/herself pretty darned good looking. but i’m not one to totally judge everyone by their physical attractiveness(it would be shallow of me to do so lor, considering the fact that i’m not exactly Miss Universe myself). the main reason why i never found her/him appealing in any way was because he/she was a terrible gossip, majoring in malicious unfounded rumours about a classmate , minoring in exaggerating stories about another innocent classmate. even within her/his own group of friends, he/she managed to come up with snarky nicknames for each and everyone of them. with that, i found it extremely difficult to see any good in him/her.
i admit i was no saint, i made several lame jokes at his/her expense to express my contempt for her/his inept remarks. i even drew a crude chinese cartoon(i command you to stop laughing! lol.) that depicted him/her getting rammed down by a bus/train(at that time there were quite a number of MRT suicides). its kinda bittersweet to remember these kinda things cos they WERE funny if they weren’t actually about a real person per se.
last i heard, he/she was still the same, hadn’t changed a bit.
ooh. discrimination discrimination discrimination.
what right do we have to discriminate against others when we too are flawed, albeit in different forms?
let’s reflect a bit. i’ll give you an example.
Izzie’s most annoying personality trait is shooting off her mouth extremely loudly all at the wrong times. however, she doesn’t realise it because nobody really listens to themselves talking, don’t they(unless they’re radio deejays). however when she meets Alex who exhibits the exact same trait, she gets driven crazy because she is extremely annoyed by that trait. her friends Meredith and George don’t seem to be affected at all. a few weeks later Izzie watches a candid video clip of herself taken by Cristina and realises to her dismay that the very trait she disliked in Alex was in her as well.
interesting, isn’t it. everyone of us has a little of Izzie inside us and probably also have a Alex in our lives as well.

writing this piece was part of some reflecting i was doing earlier. although i know that being human, i won’t exactly fully stop this nasty trait, i will consciously make an effort to stop.
will you do that too?
