discrimination

[be warned : lilien warns you gravely this is a long and perhaps incoherent post. lilien is not from JC therefore she cannot write GP standard essays. lilien advises you to read only if you are suffering from boredomitis. lilien is also talking in third-party speak because she has been influenced by the characters Izzie and Alex from Grey's Anatomy. ]

i just saw an ex-classmate’s photo on somerandomwebsite and i started laughing like crazy. i tried closing my eyes, breathing in and out(relaxation techniques lah!) but the moment i opened my eyes and saw the same picture again, i knew i tak boleh tahan so i closed the browser tab and went somewhere else.

what is it about a person that makes him/her attractive/appealing? do you focus more on the physical or the spiritual/mental aspect? as humans, i daresay most(if not all) of us focus greatly on the physical until time spent with the person reveals more which may or may not force us to look into the spiritual/mental aspects.

let me tell you the real reason why i laughed at said ex-classmate’s photo.

firstly, according to worldly standards, she/he wouldn’t be considered attractive at all. thankfully(or not) for him/her, she/he actually finds him/herself pretty darned good looking. but i’m not one to totally judge everyone by their physical attractiveness(it would be shallow of me to do so lor, considering the fact that i’m not exactly Miss Universe myself). the main reason why i never found her/him appealing in any way was because he/she was a terrible gossip, majoring in malicious unfounded rumours about a classmate , minoring in exaggerating stories about another innocent classmate. even within her/his own group of friends, he/she managed to come up with snarky nicknames for each and everyone of them. with that, i found it extremely difficult to see any good in him/her.

i admit i was no saint, i made several lame jokes at his/her expense to express my contempt for her/his inept remarks. i even drew a crude chinese cartoon(i command you to stop laughing! lol.) that depicted him/her getting rammed down by a bus/train(at that time there were quite a number of MRT suicides). its kinda bittersweet to remember these kinda things cos they WERE funny if they weren’t actually about a real person per se.

last i heard, he/she was still the same, hadn’t changed a bit.

ooh. discrimination discrimination discrimination.

what right do we have to discriminate against others when we too are flawed, albeit in different forms?

let’s reflect a bit. i’ll give you an example.

Izzie’s most annoying personality trait is shooting off her mouth extremely loudly all at the wrong times. however, she doesn’t realise it because nobody really listens to themselves talking, don’t they(unless they’re radio deejays). however when she meets Alex who exhibits the exact same trait, she gets driven crazy because she is extremely annoyed by that trait. her friends Meredith and George don’t seem to be affected at all. a few weeks later Izzie watches a candid video clip of herself taken by Cristina and realises to her dismay that the very trait she disliked in Alex was in her as well.

interesting, isn’t it. everyone of us has a little of Izzie inside us and probably also have a Alex in our lives as well.

writing this piece was part of some reflecting i was doing earlier. although i know that being human, i won’t exactly fully stop this nasty trait, i will consciously make an effort to stop.

will you do that too?

clean-up. and stuff.

Thursday, November 16th, 2006

i’ve done a major revamp and clean-up to the blog. layout(that’s not permanent, but whatever!) and categories all organised! deleted quite a few old entries dating back to june2004 too.

there’s now a whole truckload of categories but its not necessary to peruse thru everything in detail.

sister’s wedding is next week and i have yet to find a MUA for my younger sister, mom and i. which is bad. i think. or maybe not. i don’t know. we’ll see.

democrats seize power!!!!

Thursday, November 9th, 2006

[UPDATE :  THEY SEIZED THE SENATE AS WELL ! ! ! do i hear a woohoo? oh wait. its me going WOOHOO!!!i'm sorry. i just don't like george bush.]

da democrats are back!

yeahhh!!! yes i know i don’t have much business being so happy about this since i’m not a citizen of USA but but but i’m still happy!!!

and now people are more receptive to the idea of a woman speaker so maybe Hilary Clinton might be able to usurp Bush(fine i know that Bush legally can’t hold office again but let me say whatever i want to okay?)! haha.

anyway the democrats got back their groove due to the tainted reputations of many republicant leaders :) america now has to vote with their heads! lol.

one of the biggest embarassments yet for them has to be Ted Haggard who is widely known as one of the most influential leaders in USA Christianity and a firm supporter of the republicant party.

its still NOT over yet at this time but whatever happens..well…que sera sera.

HADY MIRZA - SI2

yep, that's your new singapore idol. Hady Mirza, 26 years old. i knew he was gonna win, but not by a whopping 40% =D . my maid was disappointed. she voted 5 times for jonathan leong(whom by the way grated on my nerves by acting like he already won).

he's versatile and his voice is good. of course its no secret that i was rooting for him ever since jay 'uncle' lim got voted out(wasn't thinking that jay was gonna win anyway. he just didnt have the stage presence and ooomph despite having a great voice).

oh, and did i mention that my 2 sisters were rooting for jonathan too? HAH! screw racist crap or biased viewpoints. i support whoever had the most talent and jonathan's monotonous voice swung me over to supporting hady(only voted once for him and that was enough).

was quite surprised that an estimated 9000 people showed up. didn't think SI2 would be able to pull in such a sizeable crowd(minus the fans and family).

oh, forget about the whole idea of SI. i don't think there's gonna be another season and frankly i'm not disappointed at all, what with the recent onslaught of talent comps.

speaking of talent comps, here's a blurry picture of juz-b performing at the acappella concert i blogged about awhile back.

not caring.

Thursday, September 14th, 2006

[note : the theme of this post is 'Not Caring'. i just used the blogger as an example, okays? and if you is sensitive and cries easily, don't read this post lah. unless you give me your address and i can send a packet of tissues to you as a token of appreciation]

a friend alerted me to a certain famous blogger’s latest post. apparently that blogger was disgruntled at the lack of intellectual readers to her blog. so out of sheer boredom and mild curiousity, i went to go see what the fuss was about.

i was surprised man. for once she really made a point. she brought up the issue of steve irwin’s death and how people starting putting up tortises in their msn nicks and encouraging others to do the same.

frankly, to me, it IS sad that he died cos he left behind two young kids. but think about it. it happens to others everyday. its just that the world pays more attention to him because he was a larger-than-life celebrity whose pet cause was animal conservationism.

for example,if a “Mr Tan Ah Soo”, an ordinary and conscientious JC tutor with 3 young kids were to die of a heart attack while teaching, would his students even care to put up perhaps ‘nerd’ icons on their msn lists and ask everybody else to do so because he was a great teacher?

i’m NOT insinuating that those who bothered to put up the tortoise emoticons were being fake. maybe you really care about irwin’s death, i may not know that.

but if you try to force your ideals on someone who doesn’t care…well… it may end up making them irritated instead of interested.

caring firstly takes a whole lot of interest to begin with. and then some. and what if you get the person interested in your ideals but it turns out screwy and he/she starts to care about crushing your ideals instead because he/she realises that he/she hates it?

not caring can sometimes make you feel better. not caring about things that aren’t of great importance, to be specific. its just like how i’ve been not-caring about the above mentioned blogger’s blog posts until the one i just mentioned. cos when her blog posts are made of fluff and such or lies, why should i care and make myself get angry?

if you don’t care about negative stuff and encourage others not to care about negative stuff too, soon everybody would ‘not care’ about the negative proponents.

and since there wouldn’t be any fuss about whatever silly things that they are trying to promote, sooner or later they would stop. now, ain’t this a great suggestion to care about? ;)

[ here's something you might wanna care about : how good your hearing is!]

Animal Abusers SUCK!

Friday, September 8th, 2006

[note : some parts of the blog entry are meant to be JOKES. if you can't tell the difference, go back to school and ask your teacher to help you]

recently animal abuse cases have been highlighted in the media. and one silly cat-abuser is still on the run, killing innocent kitties by slitting their throats! he/she needs to slitted too! i suggest maybe doing it on the face. we can slit his face in writing :) like "I KILLED CATS". if no space, just write "KILLER".

i don't understand what is wrong with abusers. what goes on in their minds? what about abusing is so fun? is it the fact that the poor animal is unable to retaliate?

the abusive acts range from the senseless (throwing rocks at animal) to the violent (beating up the animal) and to the murderous (killing the animal).

lil0 the d0g

This is Lilo. according to her bio stats from ASD, she was rescued from a man who was trying to hit her with a stick.

look at her small size. her cute face. the oh-so-melting-eyes. would you want to HIT her? or even think mean thoughts about her?

when i saw her picture, i thought that perhaps she was abandoned as a small puppy or something. i wouldn't know for sure, but the very fact that some silly man was attempting to hit her with a stick pissed me off instantly.

dogs are naturally loyal , caring and playful. it takes quite alot for a dog to get pissed off and when a dog is aggressive, chances are it has been abused in the past thereby ruining its trust in mankind.

maybe we should also hit the man with a stick to let him have a taste of the medicine he doled out. tie him up for good measure too. and ignore his cries for help!!! just like how he probably ignored Lilo's whining! :D he'd feel so good after that. nothing better than eating what you served.

other good punishments for animal abusers should include tying them up and leaving them alone for a few weeks, hitting them, pelting them with objects, poking them and laughing when they squirm, pouring hot water on them, breaking random bones in their body…

the list could go on for ages.(and for the uninformed, the above mentioned 'punishments' are just some of the abusive acts that have been done to animals)

we as humans are so obviously more powerful than animals. bullying the weak is a clear sign of insecurity. there is so much that abusers can do, but choose not to do it and inflict pain to vent frustrations.

if you find yourself harbouring negative thoughts, especially crazy thoughts like wanting to harm something, go get some help. before somebody else has to pay the price for your neglect.

G.E.M.S - My Foot Arhh!!!

Saturday, July 22nd, 2006

i’m sure singaporeans know what GEMS stands for. Go (the) Extra Mile (for) Service.

customer service personnel are all encouraged to be nice to customers and sometimes maybe even go out of their way to meet the customer’s needs. hey, they even have some programme on tv about GEMS now(hosted by ng hui and some guy).

so here’s the scoop. i’ve been shopping around for a reasonably nice dress for my sister’s nuptials. and like most singaporeans(or maybe its just me), i dress super casually, sometimes even on the sloppy side. but sunday is my nice-dress-up day, it being the Sabbath day and showing respect to God in church and all.

ah, i’ve digressed.

so i’ve been to marina square, suntec and stamford. so as NOT to be totally insulting and obvious(also dunwanna set myself up for comprains), i shall not say which outlet i went to for every story, ok?

so let’s go to outlet A. there was only 1 salesgirl attending to the shop. just as well, there were not many customers. so it being my first time selecting dresses and with an equally blur friend, i was quite indecisive lah. the salesgirl was not helpful at all, bordering on the rude side. when i asked her for a simple dress appropriate for church weddings and said i didn’t want a white dress( only the bride can be in white mah), she snapped at me “I don’t know your taste lah! I only have these few dresses!” and she chucked a white dress at me. okaaaaye. maybe it didn’t help i was in a polo tee and denim skirt.

outlet B was no better. i was in dress sandals, jeans and t-shirt. the salespeople didn’t even look at me. i browsed through all the racks in the shop but there was nary a glance. i caught one girl staring at me ’sideways’. oh yeah. all the whilst when i was in the shop with my friends, they were busy talking to themselves. wah lau….

outlet C was puzzling. i went inside, in polo tee and jeans, she smiled at me but stayed put at the other end of the shop. i talked in a rather loud conversational voice to my friend about how nice the dresses were, but not once did the lady show any signs of even walking towards me. her associate came out of the back to talk to her and even gestured towards me but there was still no movement on her part. hmm.

so what? should i have gone up to them and asked for help? was it wrong of me to wait for assistance? or were they snubbing me because of my attire and age?

i don’t know, really. at first i wondered why so many singaporeans were so cynical about the GEMS and 4 million smiles campaigns. now i kinda see the light. most of us just don’t know how to ’automatically’ be nice.

GREAT COMPRAINATION!

Wednesday, July 12th, 2006

i have come to the fantastic conclusion that Singapore's National Hobby is…

not queueing

not fighting

not circulating dirty/violent videos

not singing

not even eating

its….

COMPLAINING! (also known as kao-bei-ing, whining, and generally just negative sayings)

pet topic to comprain about? the government(more specifically, PAP lor). what exactly do they say? that govt doesn't allow them to comprain. they forgot that the govt is made up of fellow singaporeans who must have at least the tiniest bit of sympathy for their compatriots. hmm. the word compatriot reminds me of what communist china used to call each other. comrades (tong2zhi4). HAHAHAHA. with the exception of lilyneo, khawboonwan…the ministers were also born and mostly bred in singapore. so at 1 point of time in their lives, they must have loved compraining too! why comprain about fellow comprainers? (minister vivian balakrishnan was an ex-debater! that's like a first-grade comprainer!!!! and doesn't his name sound so androgynous? up to when i first heard of him, i always thought vivian was reserved for girls leh…)

everyday, you see the ST forum…not filled with nice happy letters like bus driver closing the bus and speeding to the police station to apprehend the molester, or several people beating up a robber. always filled with complaints.

online, most forums are also filled with complaints. good right?

but i know why people love to complain so much because i also comprain alot

its because complaining is a form of release. and also it increases your self esteem. hows? easy lah. you kp in various forms like writing or screaming directly at the person who irritated you until you got no more energy. and hor, you comprain about the bad points, you start forming a mental comparison checklist and you get happier when you realise you don't have similar bad points too! yay! and then hor, we forget that we ourselves possess less-than-perfect qualities…but who wants to remember that? heh.

don’t worry

i have concluded that singaporeans sometimes care too much about rankings. with the recent unsavoury spate of not very high rankings(courtesy, democracy, whatever-y), singaporeans are bemoaning the state of national conduct and some are of course blaming the government.

But don't you see it? we have to come in 'last' for some things, otherwise other countries might think we are aliens or something, because we are too perfect!

changi airport.

i'm serious.a hongkong-born friend once said to me that the only reason why his parents who worked in the airline industry came over because Changi Airport is no.1…mostly

dont litter!

a china-born friend confided in me that she was happy that she didn't have to endure the sight of litter strewn everywhere. but at the same time she was puzzled that there were money signs all over the place(she wasn't very good in english when she told me this. it was when she first arrived,so yah)

M.O.S

a usa-born acquaintance told me that it was 'wicked cool' that he could go partying and (quote)"appreciate the hot chicks, get smashed, yet not get mugged while staggering back to the hotel". please note that i am only acquainted with this fella. lol.

so therefore, the government has permitted less-than-perfect things to sprout up.

s'pore idol,yo!

take for instance Singapore Idol. out of the top 28, i think perhaps only 4-6 were comparable to other countries' idol contestants. and whilst watching the judges comment during the Piano Shows, you would think that they would at least compliment the 'lousy' and 'didn't bring it tonight' contestants because well, they handpicked them.WHY PUT THEM THERE IF THEY SUCKED SO MUCH IN THE FIRST PLACE?

for the Reader's Digest survey, i can also come up with plenty of legitimate reasons as to why we had such a poor showing.

lets recap the 3 tests they did

1)walk into public buildings 20 times to see if anybody would hold open the door

2)bought small items from 20 shops to see if cashier smiles at them and says thank you.

3)dropped folder of papers in busy area in 20 busy locations to see if ppl bother to help pick up.

*1 - some doors are really heavy. have you tried opening the ladies toilet at citylink mall? its heavy! and not only that, there are 2 of them. also, since we walk so fast, we are pretty much tailing each other and the constant pushing means the door is constantly open. therefore, if a kind soul decides to stand and open the door for just a tad, a bunch of people will stream in after that, christening him as the doorman. now, we wouldn't like that, would we?

*2 - i'm not sure how i'm going to explain this, but i think the reason why cashiers don't smile at customers is because they don't get 1 in the first place. when i'm not being my usual blur self, i try to smile at the cashier and say thanks. the bewildered/stunned look on their faces tell me that 'thanks' isn't a word they hear very often. you know, in order for someone to memorize something, usually she/he gotta hear it a couple of times a day.

*3 - remember i said that singapore is known as an almost perfect country? well, dropping papers from a folder means that you didn't organize your papers well into proper folders. also, in a busy area, everybody is busy, so no time to help pick up, plus referring to *1, people are always streaming hurriedly one behind another, so what if the kind soul gets trampled on?

so you see, we got plenty of things to be worried about. rankings are silly. unless they have the number 1. or have the words 'first' or 'high standards'. but we can't possibly be collecting so many of those silly rankings. where would we put them?

the broadband generation

Sunday, May 28th, 2006

the straits times did a story on POVERTY : GENERATION NEXT.

in the articles, they featured families who were living on a shoestring budget. the place they called home usually a tiny hdb flat. skipping meals a daily affair. mp3 players and ADSL foreign to them. dropping out of school at an early age. wondering where their next meal is going to come from. 2-5 kids per family, some of them from the 1st marriage or the 2nd. parents losing their jobs. parents unable to find proper jobs except dishwasher or cleaner due to lack of education.

and yet what most people in the broadband generation, especially those who can actually afford broadband are more concerned about is talking non-stop about politics and what the PAP has not done for them. they complain endlessly about how we don’t have a transparent government, the people are not being helped enough, we are oppressed people(read : politically disenfranchaised)…blah dee blah blah.

its like  :  ENOUGH ALREADY !

quit complaining about what the government die-die must do for you. do you think its an easy job helping 4 million people? why don’t you extend a helping hand to those who struggle from day to day? spare a thought for skinny impoverished kids who think a macdonald’s meal is a luxury yah? (and you thought that not going to starbucks for a week was torture! the horrors!)

instead of buying the latest mp3 player or lightest laptop, why not set aside $1 a day to feed a kid in school everyday? if you think that the government is really so incompetent as the ones in USA or UK(HAH! look who just apologised for the ‘iraqi invasion mistake’?), why not do something? you don’t have to help the entire working class population. adopt one family. give them your handphone that has gone out of fashion(anyway you’re busy toting around the latest 3G phone or whatever) or maybe even clothes that you can’t wear anymore?

i personally have talked to people from the working class. and it made me feel rather ashamed because what i considered ‘normal’ were what they considered blessings. therefore i decided not to be part of those who only knew how to complain and started helping out. which in a way, kinda makes me feel better. at least my being here on this earth benefits another. try it. helping another gives you a booster the best possible way criticizing the government can ever do.

very upset.

Wednesday, May 10th, 2006

i don’t suppose anybody would be particularly interested in my journal entries, which is why i write pretty superficial stuff.

recently, an attack at my integrity has been made, all in the name of politics.

some fella on the Singapore Livejournal Community attacked the PAP with vulgarities. so me, being a ‘Pro-PAP piece of shit’(as what he termed people like me) just nicely told him to quit using vulgarities as it plain reeks of low-class-ness.

and he turned it into a mudslinging session at my integrity, so-called ‘digging thru my personal info’ and saying i tell lies and endorse a bully.

i don’t know, really. i read thru all my posts and they were all in my opinion rather superficial and the only time when i really got all worked up was for the MM Lee dialogue where rudeness was the crux.

what i write down here has been pretty vague, more so during the campaigning period. if anybody wants to infer further from the shallowness of my posts, they are most welcome to do so because hey, there are plenty of opinions to any issue. but do vent it in private please. i don’t recall making any personal attacks on people based on their political inclinations.

i tell you this. my 2 sisters are anti-PAP. but we never have once gotten into a heated debate with name-calling. mainly because we are just citizens that are not politically empowered. being an armchair critic is pretty puny in comparison to genuinely nice opposition people like Low and Chiam.

i’ll say this again and again : i endorse PAP not entirely, but for mostly what they can and have done. i don’t care much for the wrong things they may or may not have done because in general, 2/3 of the population agrees that they have done good stuff for them. i never ever said that i fully supported EVERYTHING they had done. i even said that they had done a GOOD job. and that every-freaking-body makes mistakes.

i do know that there have been casaulties from the PAP governance. i do not endorse suffering for i am no sadist. while i feel for those that are politically disenfranchised, i am still encouraged by the larger numbers who have been helped in one way or another by the PAP.

IF PAP was not the party that led singapore to where it was and let’s say it was the WP who had done so(and accomplished just as much) i would endorse the WP. because i endorse what has been done for the people,a.k.a reality. i do not endorse things based on dreams and ideals.

it seems like anti-PAP people don’t get where people like me are coming from. they get all angry and stuff, letting their anger cloud their judgement. they think that they have the rights to insult people like me.

to my dissenter, you have done a good job in angering me. however i am not about to resort to your kind of low. i am going to give you what you want. i will password protect all my entries that have even a tinge of politics in it. or better still, if you call for it, i can shut down my blog too, as i have once attempted doing it after some bugger that overeacted strongly to one of my posts.

YAY PAP!!!! MAJULAH PAP!!!

Sunday, May 7th, 2006

Now that the elections are over, i can revert back to being extremely Pro-PAP!

majulah PAP

Like doh, if you hadn’t guessed by now i am super pro-PAP, you certainly must be quite slow in your train of thought.

was in hongkong the past few days, so couldn’t blog from there. but i was certainly watching CNA everyday and on saturday i stayed up just to watch the results even though i had to wake up super early on sunday for church(yes, i went church in hongkong).

was a little crushed that they didn’t get back potong pasir but nvm lah.

SDP was fuming mad. chee siok chin said the elections were screwed(or something like that). but we all know how sore losers voices of dissent usually sound like *snigger*. but good thing they ran lah. make sembawang grc(pap)look extremely good.

however i do feel that the workers party did bring up certain valid points, points that can be used by my beloved PAP.

i don’t care what anybody else says(ie : PAP dissenters) but hey, they’ve been doing a good job, not a perfect one, but show me a perfect political party and i’ll show you the perfect man.

Opposition Contests More Than Half The Seats

Thursday, April 27th, 2006

[source : www.channelnewsasia.com

L-R : PAP,SDP,SDA,WP

The island’s long-governing People’s Action Party(PAP) has been returned unopposed in 37 out of 84 seats in Parliament.

This is 6 seats shy of a majority.

However political analysts say there is no doubt that the PAP will form the government - what is in question is their share of votes.

This is the first time since 1988 the opposition is contesting more than half the seats.

There were loud cheers as the various candidates arrived at the Nomination Centres on Thursday to present their papers.

Nomination Day is when candidates declare their intention to contest the 84 seats in parliament.

But when nominations closed at noon, there were walkovers declared in Seven Group Representation Constituencies for the governing PAP which is contesting all seats.

The PAP was uncontested in Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC, Jurong GRC, Holland-Bukit Timah GRC, Marine Parade GRC, Tanjong Pagar GRC, West Coast GRC and Hong Kah GRC.

Among those returned unopposed were the PAP teams led by Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew, Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong and Deputy Prime Minister Wong Kan Seng.

There will be contests in seven other GRCs - Aljunied GRC, Ang Mo Kio GRC, Jalan Besar GRC, Sembawang GRC, East Coast GRC, Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC and Tampines GRC.

As in previous years, the opposition is contesting all 9 Single Member Constituencies.

The SMCs are Bukit Panjang, Chua Chu Kang, Joo Chiat, MacPherson, Nee Soon Central, Nee Soon East, Potong Pasir, Yio Chu Kang and Hougang.

Single seats have been the favoured battleground for the opposition, which is defending two seats - Potong Pasir and Hougang. - CNA/ch

I don’t know about you guys but this election is pretty depressing for me because the GRC that i’m under kena contested for the first time. sian. the worst part? i’m not even sure if all 3 registered voters in my family are voting for the party which i so not obviously support.

and by the way, this is NOT a blatant support for any political party. because i put up all their logos.okay? lol.

oh goodness.

[edited : point 6, i forgot to specify that when i said 'laptop' i meant that she prob used her laptop to write the articles on TODAY. thanks to fatboylee for bringing that point to my (short)attention(span)!]

usually im quite reticent on this blog, not talking much about what goes on in my life(and mind, for that matter).

but somehow, when someone(or some people) talk so much about Singapore and Politics, i feel that i must retort back in a similar fashion. ARMCHAIR VERSUS ARMCHAIR! WOOOOO!!!!
those panelists(i still have yet to watch their retort session so excuse the laggard standard of writing here) steadfastly stand by their delusion that they were not rude at all. as with their supporters(who typically will be 20-30, university educated and stuff).

their supporters go one up by saying that we, the Panelists Were Rude team(PWR), focus more on their lack of respect for the MM rather than the issues brought up altogether. they also criticize us(*yawn*, whats new!) by saying that we’re like extremely closet minded and too traditional, preferring to just see MM as an ‘old man’ and that he was ‘equally rude’. and the best part is that they assume all PWR people are above the age of 30. hello! look at me please!
i don’t know what exactly other PWR people are thinking but i can offer a few possible viewpoints.(once again, excuse me if i’m blabbering and repeating myself. which also not by chance, is what one critic said MM was doing)

The Panelists Were Rude Because…

1) MM , whether or not a senior politician, the founder of the ruling party, international political figure, deserves respect because he is older and has seen and experienced more than they will ever do so in their entire life.

2) They questioned his ideas and presence in the government, hinting that he should be stepping down to like, be a proper retired man of his age. let’s refer to point 1 again. hardship to the panelists is probably like worrying if they have enough gas money or enough money to pay for their 5 star hotel wedding. or paying back their parents for what they had done. so like that, Singapore dun have to pay the PAP back for the 40 odd years lah.

3) Even if MM rambled on and had very long pauses which may have made them unsure if he was spoken, wouldn’t a simple “Excuse Me, Mr Lee” suffice? more than not, they addressed him simply as “you” rather than “mr lee”

4) they were behaving like they were politically disenfranchised. let me remind you all that the Nepalese King just yesterday annouced that he was withdrawing his earlier demand for absolute power. and that was only after his people took to the streets to protest like mad against him, causing uncessary bloodshed. in Iran, they are planning to arrest women just for wanting to look good and behaving in a very ‘un-Islamic’ way. so ah, can i ask that the panelists sell off some of their PDA mobile phones, laptops and such to provide money to champion such a worthy political cause(you know, to fight for rights, something they think Singaporeans don’t have)?

5) they clearly thought MM was not capable of fast wit and logic, being 80-ish and all. old what, surely mental capacity must have diminished somewhat. so when one particular journo was cut down to size after questioning by MM, he chose to show his innermost feelings by sulking. very mature hor?

6) Bloggers have their blogs to vent(like me!) and one journalist wielded the power of her laptop and let everybody know how foolish they(they, as in the PWR people) were in her articles on the TODAY newspaper. of course she was not being rude, she was being frank, and MM clearly WANTED this style of Q and A. of course.

7) they keep harping on how ‘things weren’t done’ and how ‘things were done wrong’. but somehow ah, talking about how ‘things got done’ is not very thought provoking. seems very useless to talk about nice things.

8) they are but greenhorns. you know, i think i would’ve actually appreciated their points coming from the mouths of members of the Opposition Party. respected people like Chiam See Tong and Low Thia Kiang. its like fans watching The Rock wrestle The Undertakeer and telling you how difficult it is to wrestle The Undertaker. Would you rather listen to how difficult it was to wrestle The Undertaker from The Rock who did wrestled him personally, or have spectators tell you what they saw?

9) they keep saying that PAP strikes fear in people and we die-die hve to support them. the way they say ah, like really must bow to MM or something. eh, we don’t have a monarchy like Thailand(do you know that before movie screeenings they show a clip about the king and the moviegoers have to bow to the king when the clip ends?) that MM is the King or something lehs. MM is merely a political leader, you are free to choose whoever you want in the government.

10) the western ideals of freedom of expression appeal more to them rather than traditional asian values of shutting up and letting your elders talk. it is also better apparently if you just barge full on regardless of what others may think.

ooh, 10 reasons! YAY ME!

i know that there’s a ban on political blogging and stuff, so prease, bear in mind that this post is NOT attacking or supporting any particular political party, okay? its just speaking out, like those panelists were doing! :D

hmmm…

[note : this entry was blogged yesterday, on the 20th of April 2006 in the morning. i have yet to catch the panelist's retort session so forgive the outdated stuff in here]

Inside Man

watched it yesterday. give it 4/5 stars.1 star taken off cos mainly it sure cost very little to film that movie. didn’t even recognize denzel washington until the credits were rolling. slow, i am. denzel proves his worth as an intense actor, clive owen was really good as the bank robber…and james ransome was in the movie too! for those of you who don’t know who james ransome is…its okay. i didn’t know who he was until recently. but anyway not long ago, he ran after a potential rapist and totally whupped his ass! awesome!!!

sigh..
school has started again. don’t ask me why but let’s just say my school is indeed quite screwed sometimes when it comes to administrative affairs.

i posted a comment on the MM Lee Dialogue thingy in a livejournal community and was promptly shot down by another commenter. which made me realise something. the demographic of the anti a certain party-ers = 24 to 30 years old and highly educated. exactly the kind of people a certain party wants and that the fact these detractors are shooting a certain party for only roping in that kind. hmmm. ironic? you betcha!

i mean c’mon, take a good look at me. i’m not exactly the kind of person that most political parties would be dying to rope in. in fact, i am what they would term as ‘the ordinary folk’, which oh, coincidentally, happens to be the folk who decide who gets to be the ruling party! if i can bring myself to see what a certain party has been doing for us for the past 40 odd years, i think those seemingly intelligent panelists(who by the way are having some kind of retort show hosted by diana ser today. and like DOH, they obviously still think they were right to be rude to MM Lee) should be able to see some light. provided they want to, i guess.

you know ah, they behaving like they are politically disenfranchised. wait until that happens. who’ll start crying first huh?

my older sister(who is in the demographic i mentioned earlier) says that she didn’t find those people were being rude to MM Lee. so i asked my younger sister who’s 16(and extremely opinionated) if she thought that the panelists were being reasonable in their mannerisms and speech. she said she didn’t approve. my older sis has once said she was like me, but her thinking has unfortunately morphed(i’m not insulting my sis, she’s just representative of the mold those panelists are shaped from). so now i’m wondering if my younger sis will follow suit.

in any case, i’ll still stick by to my beliefs. besides i don’t see the other parties focusing on really fantastic stuff anyway. they seem to be harping on the narrow scope of negativity and to me, that isn’t much at all.
