yesterday was the day…

…i gained a brother-in-law.

one boy one girl

it was soooo beautiful and touching. i’ve been waiting a loong time for this to happen. and i almost blubbered when my sis and dad walked down the aisle but managed to keep it to a minimum(chin quivering and eyes tearing). yes. i be the emo one.

standing in front of the church

i was a lil glad when the church service was over because it meant that the opportunities to cry would be stopped.

big thanks to ros, eleta, zhen and jaya for coming for the church wedding=)

the dinner was held at the meritus mandarin. despite already having pre-booked online, the service at the front-desk was sloow and sluggish. it didn’t help that we were already LATE due to the massive traffic jam caused by weekend crowds and the pouring rain.

so paiseh cos my MUA Cherlyn and her friend Lydia(who was there to help because there were 4 of us to do)was already there.

anyway, just to let you guys know that if you ever need a MUA, Cherlyn’s very good. i was already convinced mostly by the pictures she posted up on her blog but having personally have her do my hair and makeup affirms my convictions :)

hair and mu sideview

apologies for only posting up the side view, does not do justice to cherlyn’s work but unfortunately alot of my zilian shots involve me grinning like a chesire cat so uh maybe i’ll post the rest in friendster or something.

am extremely happy and tired.

my brother-in-law(officially at last!) was so funny. at first i wanted to take pictures with him AND my sis. he didnt know, figuring that i must’ve been wanting to take pics only with my beloved sis. i told him “but you’re my real brother in law now!” and he went “oh” and stepped back in.

he’s still addressing my dad as ‘uncle’. but tried to correct himself later on in the night.

“hi! uh….dad!”

well its alright. he’ll spend the rest of his life being my dad’s son-in-law. plenty of time to practice.

huggability

Wednesday, November 15th, 2006

Sometimes, a hug is all what we need. Free hugs is a real life controversial story of Juan Mann, A man whose sole mission was to reach out and hug a stranger to brighten up their lives. In this age of social disconnectivity and lack of human contact, the effects of the Free Hugs campaign became phenomenal.

As this symbol of human hope spread accross the city, police and officials ordered the Free Hugs campaign BANNED. What we then witness is the true spirit of humanity come together in what can only be described as awe inspiring.

In the Spirit of the free hugs campaign, PASS THIS TO A FRIEND and HUG A STRANGER! After all, If you can reach just one person…
Notice the layout change? well you would, if you visited my blog regularly.

[now let me pause to stifle the giggles]

its not very fancy since

1) i can’t do photoshop

2) i used picasa

3) i got irritated after 2-3 tries

4) there weren’t many images that i could resize to look half-decent

yup. there you have it. with blogspot it could’ve been a bit more fancy but i’ll just leave this be.

do you know that the Thais are encouraged to wear yellow in honor of their king’s 60th year of ascension to the throne? they even have official polo tees/t-shirts with the royal insignia on it. pretty cool idea and its heartening to see so many people wear the tee :)

of course, it wasn’t a day in the park for me when the air stewards and stewardesses in the plane thought i was thai just because i was in yellow and it was a monday -_-”

democrats seize power!!!!

Thursday, November 9th, 2006

[UPDATE :  THEY SEIZED THE SENATE AS WELL ! ! ! do i hear a woohoo? oh wait. its me going WOOHOO!!!i'm sorry. i just don't like george bush.]

da democrats are back!

yeahhh!!! yes i know i don’t have much business being so happy about this since i’m not a citizen of USA but but but i’m still happy!!!

and now people are more receptive to the idea of a woman speaker so maybe Hilary Clinton might be able to usurp Bush(fine i know that Bush legally can’t hold office again but let me say whatever i want to okay?)! haha.

anyway the democrats got back their groove due to the tainted reputations of many republicant leaders :) america now has to vote with their heads! lol.

one of the biggest embarassments yet for them has to be Ted Haggard who is widely known as one of the most influential leaders in USA Christianity and a firm supporter of the republicant party.

its still NOT over yet at this time but whatever happens..well…que sera sera.

homesick

Monday, October 23rd, 2006

this is a music video of Mercy Me performing their 2005 hit “homesick”. if memory serves me correctly, the song is honouring the soldiers in iraq. very touching song.

not caring.

Thursday, September 14th, 2006

[note : the theme of this post is 'Not Caring'. i just used the blogger as an example, okays? and if you is sensitive and cries easily, don't read this post lah. unless you give me your address and i can send a packet of tissues to you as a token of appreciation]

a friend alerted me to a certain famous blogger’s latest post. apparently that blogger was disgruntled at the lack of intellectual readers to her blog. so out of sheer boredom and mild curiousity, i went to go see what the fuss was about.

i was surprised man. for once she really made a point. she brought up the issue of steve irwin’s death and how people starting putting up tortises in their msn nicks and encouraging others to do the same.

frankly, to me, it IS sad that he died cos he left behind two young kids. but think about it. it happens to others everyday. its just that the world pays more attention to him because he was a larger-than-life celebrity whose pet cause was animal conservationism.

for example,if a “Mr Tan Ah Soo”, an ordinary and conscientious JC tutor with 3 young kids were to die of a heart attack while teaching, would his students even care to put up perhaps ‘nerd’ icons on their msn lists and ask everybody else to do so because he was a great teacher?

i’m NOT insinuating that those who bothered to put up the tortoise emoticons were being fake. maybe you really care about irwin’s death, i may not know that.

but if you try to force your ideals on someone who doesn’t care…well… it may end up making them irritated instead of interested.

caring firstly takes a whole lot of interest to begin with. and then some. and what if you get the person interested in your ideals but it turns out screwy and he/she starts to care about crushing your ideals instead because he/she realises that he/she hates it?

not caring can sometimes make you feel better. not caring about things that aren’t of great importance, to be specific. its just like how i’ve been not-caring about the above mentioned blogger’s blog posts until the one i just mentioned. cos when her blog posts are made of fluff and such or lies, why should i care and make myself get angry?

if you don’t care about negative stuff and encourage others not to care about negative stuff too, soon everybody would ‘not care’ about the negative proponents.

and since there wouldn’t be any fuss about whatever silly things that they are trying to promote, sooner or later they would stop. now, ain’t this a great suggestion to care about? ;)

[ here's something you might wanna care about : how good your hearing is!]

Animal Abusers SUCK!

Friday, September 8th, 2006

[note : some parts of the blog entry are meant to be JOKES. if you can't tell the difference, go back to school and ask your teacher to help you]

recently animal abuse cases have been highlighted in the media. and one silly cat-abuser is still on the run, killing innocent kitties by slitting their throats! he/she needs to slitted too! i suggest maybe doing it on the face. we can slit his face in writing :) like "I KILLED CATS". if no space, just write "KILLER".

i don't understand what is wrong with abusers. what goes on in their minds? what about abusing is so fun? is it the fact that the poor animal is unable to retaliate?

the abusive acts range from the senseless (throwing rocks at animal) to the violent (beating up the animal) and to the murderous (killing the animal).

lil0 the d0g

This is Lilo. according to her bio stats from ASD, she was rescued from a man who was trying to hit her with a stick.

look at her small size. her cute face. the oh-so-melting-eyes. would you want to HIT her? or even think mean thoughts about her?

when i saw her picture, i thought that perhaps she was abandoned as a small puppy or something. i wouldn't know for sure, but the very fact that some silly man was attempting to hit her with a stick pissed me off instantly.

dogs are naturally loyal , caring and playful. it takes quite alot for a dog to get pissed off and when a dog is aggressive, chances are it has been abused in the past thereby ruining its trust in mankind.

maybe we should also hit the man with a stick to let him have a taste of the medicine he doled out. tie him up for good measure too. and ignore his cries for help!!! just like how he probably ignored Lilo's whining! :D he'd feel so good after that. nothing better than eating what you served.

other good punishments for animal abusers should include tying them up and leaving them alone for a few weeks, hitting them, pelting them with objects, poking them and laughing when they squirm, pouring hot water on them, breaking random bones in their body…

the list could go on for ages.(and for the uninformed, the above mentioned 'punishments' are just some of the abusive acts that have been done to animals)

we as humans are so obviously more powerful than animals. bullying the weak is a clear sign of insecurity. there is so much that abusers can do, but choose not to do it and inflict pain to vent frustrations.

if you find yourself harbouring negative thoughts, especially crazy thoughts like wanting to harm something, go get some help. before somebody else has to pay the price for your neglect.

talent-overload.

Thursday, August 31st, 2006

first of all, i'd like to annouce that i did a dance to celebrate joakim's gracious exit from Singapore Idol. too bad for you guys that the dance was performed in my room and nobody else saw it and never will there be another celebratory dance like it again.

secondly, i decided to go watch Superband videos on youtube(where else?) and found some great performances by Juz-B , an acapella malay band! they were fantastic. simply fantastic!

since now my life is so boring and this post would have absolutely no meaningful content whatsover, i present to you 2 great videos!

Juz B - Kiss Goodbye

Hady Mirza - some sheila majid song

dreams of deja vu.

Monday, July 31st, 2006

have you ever suddenly realised whilst dreaming that you've visited the place before and almost the same exact things happened?

(no, i'm not talking about hidden meanings in dreams cos i'm no expert and only God can intepret the stuff for you)

i have had a few recurring dreams and everytime i recognize them, i get really freaked out but am too tired to do anything about it. yes, if you concentrate hard enough, you might be able to sometimes control what goes on in your dreams.

there's one where i go to some foreign worker's dormitory(it houses not only construction workers but domestic helpers too. hmmm) that looks eerily like my aunt's previous apartment in Bedok Resevoir Road. it will always be nighttime and the lights are orange. but that's all i manage to recall. ah well.

today i had one of them again. but the plus part was that Captain Jack Sparrow was in it this time and i had to help him with his loot. lol.

here's a video of At Last in the semis of America's Got Talent. fellow asians to be proud of in that country other than lea salonga, ming na wen, lucy liu… (i think i better not say anymore before i launch into a soliloquy on asian pride again)

BOTH DRESSES COME FROM www.thedressingloft.com

both dresses are from thedressingloft[dot]com

decided to delete the prev post(as if anybody read it! hah!) cos it was rather bad lah. what if by some freaky chance both of them read it and cry? not good right? lol.

discovered that if you want a lovely dress in singapore, be prepared to pay a pretty penny for it. and i don't think i'm that prepared.

savin’ me

Sunday, July 9th, 2006

i love the song Savin' Me by Nickelback. its one of those songs that turns me into a karaoke queen and i start singing reaaally loudly. that's of course when i'm alone. i do not wish to torture people like that.

(yeah i know, sudden influx of vids. but watch this one. it has a rather strange concept. please note that i like nickelback because of their quality music and not their…rather matured appearances)

anyways for the past 2 weeks my church has been focusing on community service outreach. its good to do community service! i am part of one of my church's community service branch's programmes. and so far, it has been great :) if you were to ask me which church activity i enjoyed better i would tell you sunday school of course that i like both.

a longwinded tribute to asian talent :)

Wednesday, July 5th, 2006

a friend recently blogged about how we(asians in general) always perceived caucasians to be the better looking ones due to western influence and the media. agreed with her cos that's how i imagine most of us to be thinking!

truthfully speaking i too once thought that perhaps caucasians were better in almost every aspect(didnt help that the movies we watch had asians ALWAYS in negative roles like gangsters. boo!) but in recent years my mindset changed(matured, ma. hahahaha) and i began to appreciate my heritage, as how God created me to be. we're all equal anyway. no matter how we look like.

so today as i was aimlessly clicking away on youtube, i watched a few clips of At Last, an American-Asian band that did hiphop+acapella. man. asian pride. that's the 2 best words to describe how i (and plenty of other people) felt.

this is a clip of them on America's Got Talent(a show created by a briton. how…oxymoronic in a way)

anyway… they're not the only Asian talent available in this world. anybody heard of Lea Salonga? if you haven't heard of her, chances are you're either very young or allergic to any form of media. she's a fantastic filipino singer who's sung in broadway musicals such as Les Miserables and Miss Saigon. doesn't hurt that she is pretty too.

its a clip of her singing 'On My Own' from the famous musical Les Miserables(pronouced Lay-Miz-er-rub)

fact = when you sing, traces of accents are completely gone. unless of course you are singing in foreign language you haven't mastered completely or just can't get the pronouciation right.

i seem to have lost my train of thought. let me go catch it. meanwhile, enjoy the videos.

[disclaimer : this has nothing to do with the fact that i'm bored AND just happen to love all things asian]

[sidenote : WHY DID GERMANY LOSE ON HOME GROUND??!! ARGHH WHY WHY WHY???!!!]

eating my words. sorta.

Thursday, June 29th, 2006

yes, i know fully well that i've always said time and time again(not necessarily on this blog) that i don't support singapore idol because we simply don't have the contestants to rival other countries. but hey, here's a true dark horse story.

even my beloved 8days dissed him!!!wah rau!!! so to prove that this 'Uncle Xinyao Vibe' had some non-cheena fans, i voted for him. once only lah. i'm no diehard fan okay. i laughed like crap whilst watching him blubber and mess up his 2nd rendition of Solitaire(which is by NEIL SEDAKA and not Clay Aiken!)during the wildcard results.

Handwriting Analysis

What does your handwriting say about YOU?

this is the most accurate version of my handwriting. in fact i was fairly surprised that i could write like that considering the fact that my mouse is quite screwed when it comes to clicking.

Christmas is about 2 weeks away. went with huimin last friday to go snap the Christmas Lightup in orchard road. stopped by Wheelock Place because i recalled last year’s decorations to be really nice. and i was right! in fact this year they went one step up and added some other hanging ornaments. unfortunately i was also tapped on the shoulder by a short security guard who said picture taking was not allowed and i should get out that very instant. i was mostly startled to respond intelligently thus we left the building as instructed. anyway he didn’t ask me to delete the shots. but for added measure i won’t post them up publicly.

This week is relatively okay for me. (like any of you need to know LOL)
Tuesday - meet up with nilam + driving in the morning
Wednesday - meet up with bird
Thursday - bring dog to vet (urgh. its gonna take forever just to drag her there)
Friday - go to see john perform at somewhere(can’t recall offhand)

well, yay! that’s all for now folks. be back later(dunno how much later) with pictures and more crap. lalala. byeee.

You Are Sexy Black Boots

You only look like you could walk all over someone…

What Kind of Boots Are You?

Not only would i walk all over someone, i would stomp on their faces too…mwahaha…

You Can Hang With the Guys and the Girls

You’ve struck a good balance between girlie and laid back.
You can keep it casual but when you dress up, you are as girly as the next girl.

How Girlie Are You?

Of course lah…you’ve to be normal what… being too girlie is too irksome, and being too tomboyish is plain scary.
