Question 1: When do you know you’ve gone over the edge?

Answer : When you somehow manage to guess what ‘terminal illness’ the lead female actress of a Korean Movie is suffering from.

Question 2 : When do you realise the reason behind why your friends(esp fellow females) are embarassed to be caught watching movies with you?

Answer : Whenever a character dies/gets injured/is in pain and you start laughing hysterically.

millionaire's first love movie poster

watched A Millionaire’s First Love on dvd with a friend.

[don't continue reading this segment if you plan on watching the movie]

of course, the girl had some tragic illness. in her case, it was hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. it was very obvious which of the two leads was the one that was going to die by the way she kept clutching at her heart and the numerous hospital admissions. so at one point of the movie i absentmindedly thought to myself that she must be suffering from some form of heart disease and the word cardiomyopathy came into mind.

true enough the doctors revealed to the guy the girl’s diagnosis and i was busy whooping with joy about how i managed to guess it right.

yeah i resisted the urge to laugh when she died cos her death scene wasn’t the long drawn-out kind where everybody sobs for like 10 minutes and her head slumps to one side when she says her last words, takes last breath and dies kinda thing.

 step up

also watched Step Up with another friend and this is where Question No.2 comes into play.

[yet again, don't read if you plan on watching the movie yah?]

the main supporting cast consists of these two brothers who are the lead’s “homies”. so the skinny little brother(aptly nicknamed ’skinny’) got shot after he tried to steal some bad-ass gangster’s SUV. the timing was sooo absurdly short can. he steals the car, drives off with it and just within 2 minutes of screen time the fella he stole from manages to catch up and shoot him down.

so he dies rather quickly, leaving his brother and the lead crying like babies over his dead body. this scene set off alot of giggles from me. i think the couple in front of me were mad at me. and the girl in the same row was amazed. and my friend was left wanting to hide her face somewhere.

don’t get me wrong. i’m not one devoid of sympathy. its just that some of the sad scenes in movies are a lil too exaggerated, and its purely fiction so whats there NOT to laugh at?

-ahem-

do remind me to stop laughing when others are visibly distressed by the character’s passing/me laughing too loudly :)

what : be!dazzled a cappella concert

who : various a cappella artistes

when : 16/9/06 , 7.30pm

where : victoria concert hall

************************************

okay, admittedly, i went for only one reason the main reason why i went : to see Juz-B live.

and of course to support local artistes lah. 8 days said that there most probably won’t be another SI due to lack of talent. there ISN’T a lack of talent. its just that these people can’t be bothered with commercial fame!

first half of the concert was like NUS+Amateurs. it was okay.

however i was impressed by temasek sec’s group. even though they were only 13-15 years old, they were very good. the lead singer spoke like a girl(can’t be helped anyway) but his voice was not bad.

the 2nd half was fantastic. it was like they were saving the best for last.

it kicked off with this guy who beat-boxed. since i hardly hear beat-boxing i was impressed. on the website the fella was supposed to be Ryan Chan but i think the fella onstage was malay cos after that this malay rap group came on and called him ‘Zul’. i think. but regardless of moniker or race, he was excellent. the rap group did give me a shock when they started rapping to a tune from Les Choristes.hmm.

after that came singapore’s only female acappella band called Nanu. they had a token guy there for beats. their banter with the audience was rather ’PG’ and one of them was especially funny, joking about the ’smoke’ that the crew kept going on.

verve enharmonics  and key elements revved the crowd up into loud cheers and clapping that sustained thru out their songs. what to do, they were the best.

juz-b was last. wah…i waited so long leh. haha. their beat-boxer guy, in their own words, was “somewhere in the sea lah, south china sea” doing coast guard duty so they had one fella from Mi Lu Bing(at the very sight of him, some girls kept screaming his name WeiQi(thanks to davina from verve enharmonics. i don’t know why i remembered his name as shao wei.really -_-”). he looked suitably embarassed. lol) to replace him. yes i’m very biased i think that other than verve+key, juz-b brought the house down and even prompted a male member of the audience to proclaim his love for them really loudly.

it ended at 10pm ++, after an encore of ‘qing fei de yi’.

i give it a 8.5/10

(minus 1.5 for certain members of the audience who 1) clapped randomly to make the song clap-along sound stupid 2) sing along to the song ‘my immortal’ like they were part of the group 3) screaming like crazy and standing up, effectively blocking the people behind them…)

hmmm…

[note : this entry was blogged yesterday, on the 20th of April 2006 in the morning. i have yet to catch the panelist's retort session so forgive the outdated stuff in here]

Inside Man

watched it yesterday. give it 4/5 stars.1 star taken off cos mainly it sure cost very little to film that movie. didn’t even recognize denzel washington until the credits were rolling. slow, i am. denzel proves his worth as an intense actor, clive owen was really good as the bank robber…and james ransome was in the movie too! for those of you who don’t know who james ransome is…its okay. i didn’t know who he was until recently. but anyway not long ago, he ran after a potential rapist and totally whupped his ass! awesome!!!

sigh..
school has started again. don’t ask me why but let’s just say my school is indeed quite screwed sometimes when it comes to administrative affairs.

i posted a comment on the MM Lee Dialogue thingy in a livejournal community and was promptly shot down by another commenter. which made me realise something. the demographic of the anti a certain party-ers = 24 to 30 years old and highly educated. exactly the kind of people a certain party wants and that the fact these detractors are shooting a certain party for only roping in that kind. hmmm. ironic? you betcha!

i mean c’mon, take a good look at me. i’m not exactly the kind of person that most political parties would be dying to rope in. in fact, i am what they would term as ‘the ordinary folk’, which oh, coincidentally, happens to be the folk who decide who gets to be the ruling party! if i can bring myself to see what a certain party has been doing for us for the past 40 odd years, i think those seemingly intelligent panelists(who by the way are having some kind of retort show hosted by diana ser today. and like DOH, they obviously still think they were right to be rude to MM Lee) should be able to see some light. provided they want to, i guess.

you know ah, they behaving like they are politically disenfranchised. wait until that happens. who’ll start crying first huh?

my older sister(who is in the demographic i mentioned earlier) says that she didn’t find those people were being rude to MM Lee. so i asked my younger sister who’s 16(and extremely opinionated) if she thought that the panelists were being reasonable in their mannerisms and speech. she said she didn’t approve. my older sis has once said she was like me, but her thinking has unfortunately morphed(i’m not insulting my sis, she’s just representative of the mold those panelists are shaped from). so now i’m wondering if my younger sis will follow suit.

in any case, i’ll still stick by to my beliefs. besides i don’t see the other parties focusing on really fantastic stuff anyway. they seem to be harping on the narrow scope of negativity and to me, that isn’t much at all.

i not stupid 2 movie poster

went to watch I NOT STUPID 2 today! it was not bad. it had both funny and sad parts. though the sad parts were marred by the inaccuracies of the hospital settings in which a character is dying. the Sp02 was 100(which means the fella has enough oxygen) and the character’s heartrate was about 80-90(normal heartrate for at rest). yes i know i should give it a rest about accuracies of hospital settings but somehow when you know whats the real thing…the fake ones irk you even more.

its just like how you thought this person was nice to you because he/she liked you for who you were, but actually sucked up to you because you happened to be popular or something. dunno.
i wish it didn’t last so long though nearly was late for class. and to add on to the late factor, i found this girl’s hp(her friend nearly lost his wallet but some rj girl returned it quickly) on the seat(cos i was kaypoh, looked down and realised the hp was there). she made me walk down to macdonalds just so i could give it back. wth. but at least i did the HONEST thing ahaha.

Perhaps Love

Saturday, December 17th, 2005

went to watch Perhaps Love with nilam. really liked that show! went in with no expectations but was mainly watching it because Jacky Cheung was in it. and boy can that man really sing. he is the best asian singer ever!

takeshi kaneshiro aka jin chengwu was alright in singing. zhou xun’s singing was fine. i loved how ji jin hee sung. it was so cute hearing korean accented chinese. AHAHA. nobody can ever compare to Jacky’s singing. nobody. lol.

Christmas is coming! 8 more days. 8 more…

Perfect Catch

Thursday, September 8th, 2005

went to watch a(nother) movie! this time i went to watch it with huda. she forgot her jacket and i wore a skirt instead of pants.

a tip for people who get cold easily in movie theatres : Bring a jacket and wear long pants please. preferably with covered shoes too.

Perfect Catch was a rather cute movie. funny, sensitive and romantic. it was about Lindsey(drew barrymore), a career woman and Ben(jimmy fallon), a schoolteacher who happens to be obsessed in a somewhat unhealthy way with the Boston Red Sox.

certain parts were really lame like how the anaesthesiologist tried to shave a certain part of Ben’s anatomy as part of ‘Clean Ben Up’. but overall, the movie is pleasant to watch and the original storyline from nick hornby’s book isn’t messed up too much.

PS : i managed to spell anaesthesiologist correctly!!! wow!!! like how amazing is that??!!

A Moment To Remember

Sunday, September 4th, 2005

This show has been out for quite some time. Rented the vcd yesterday on impulse. Didn’t really read-up on the reviews thought. So didn’t know the storyline, just continued to watch.

The show is rather slow moving, but be ready to take out your tissues if you are the kind that easily is moved.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Sunday, August 14th, 2005

Went to watch Charlie and the Chocolate Factory!
I still love Johnny Depp. He made the show hilarious. Not to mention those freaky little Oompa Loompas. Was fully expecting them to be little replicas of caucasian dwarves, but was surprised in the end.

Go watch!
Otherwise…as Willy Wonka would say…
“You’re Weird”

Bewitched!

be Bewitched!

watched this movie yesterday with huimin and peiwen!

supposed to go see the fireworks with the both of them but after walking around marina bay with peiwen and finding that we were both bored with the displays, we headed back to cityhall and when huimin came, i suggested a movie and the both of them agreed! haha.

went to eng wah at 6.56pm and managed to get good seats(3rd row from behind) for the 7.05pm show. pretty much stuffed ourselves with popcorn throughout the whole movie. there were 2 guys in the back seats laughing very loudly at every single funny scene. felt like offering them the popcorn. the whole container’s worth at one shot.

bought Jar’s of Clay’s “Redemption Songs”. so now i’ve bought both of the CDs i wanted to buy earlier on. yay! but from now on i shall only invest my money in Christian CDs. better this way for me.

time with an old friend :)

Wednesday, June 8th, 2005

today, went over to jaya’s house to watch Chalte Chalte. it’s a 2003 production. anyway that show actually made me dislike Shah Rukh Khan(when i was watching it), who happens to be my favorite hindi actor. usually all his roles are the romantic good guy type. but in this role, he played a very MCP middle class business guy. i think i’m on a movie-with-a-MCP streak. that’s bad. lol. but in the end the show ended up okay… i think i’ll stick to movies where SRK remains the really really good guy :)

we set off to ECP after the show but only discovered that she had left her IC at home. so we only walked until the jetty. did manage to get a few shots though.

can you believe jaya and i have known each other for 13 years?! gosh. we’re old.

i like this shot. i took it when i was sitting at the jetty.

this one was taken facing the entry of the jetty. wooo. feels good to be using my cam again.

a day out.

my boyfriend is type B

went to watch “My Boyfriend is Type B” with ros today! had no choice but to watch that coz all the others i watched already. as in the non-scary ones lah. lol.

i give it 4 * * * * ! take 1 * off coz i didn’t really like how the script required the lead guy to keep bullying the girl. he really went overboard in certain cases, displaying characteristics typical of a MCP. but it was overall super super funny! haven’t laughed so much in a movie for a long time. and at one really classic point, the audience actually applauded. i was shocked coz you know lah, singaporeans generally don’t do this kind of ‘appreciate the show’ things. it was a priceless moment.

would you judge people according to their blood type? i seriously don’t think that it affects a person’s characteristics but according to some serious research done, it can affect what you’re supposed to eat in order to stay healthy. yes, apparently… your blood type can influence your diet. strange, but its worth giving a shot.

saw Steven Lim aka Singapore Idol Stripper Reject whose highest qualification is a Dip in Marketing from NYP. sure am glad that i’m no longer associated with marketing.lols.
there were tons of ppl staring at him. some were even pointing and whispering. but he shrugged it off and pretended nothing was going on. this guy sure has thick skin. i’m impressed!

feel kinda tired. for some strange reason, my feet hurt, as though i’ve been walking tons(as it would be everytime i go out ’shopping’ with a certain shoppaholic).yups. shall sign off until i’ve got something more…interesting…

lilien + aunties + swing girls

Swing Girls!
went to watch together with chin, chanwei and jon sim. the movie was awesome. it was funny and inspiring, kinda. except that it was amazing(as usual) how fast the characters could pick up playing the instruments so fast. i recommend it to anybody who loves a good team-spirit movie!

on the way to somerset..the train was kinda packed towards the lavender-bugis area. this aunty in an orange blouse came on the train…and was super rude i tell you. it was already so squeezy, yet she insisted on busting her way in and grabbed onto chin’s hair for support. although i feel bad chin got affected by that woman, i’m half glad it wasn’t me because i certainly would have let that aunty know what i was thinking immeadiately.

at cathay, since chin was craving for XXL chicken we went to buy it. first the queue was long, secondly there were only 2 people manning the counter, thirdly…

there were 3 teenage boys behind us yet they got served first. the aunty in the store assumed that they were friends of ours. excuse me arh, but i don’t hang out with little boys that lie to get their food first! of course we were late for the movie thanks to that chicken aunty. the poor guy assisting her didn’t really know about it until i got super fed up. i said in chinese “we were here first, we were not with them! why did you give them first?”. and yes, my tone showed how mad i was. the best part? the aunty explained to her assistant in dialect she thought that when chin and i said ‘3 packets’ it was for me, chin, and those 3 boys -_-” from her expression, i gather it is safe to conclude that she assumes that neither chin nor i understood dialect.

really felt like shouting at that woman for her disregard for good customer service standards. good thing her assistant was suitably apologetic. otherwise…

i suppose i’m very demanding as a customer. after all i have been at the other side of customer relations as a promoter and when working in the hospital for attachment. i know what it is like to serve and be served. therefore i cannot tolerate service that is half-hearted and waaay below par. sigh. need to be more patient. but those aunties really made me so angry.

after the movie we first went to coffee club outside california fitness coz jon sim hadn’t eaten yet. but since we were practically the youngest there, the staff indirectly snubbed us and we didn’t get seats even after waiting for 15 min. so we left and went to nydc. well at least the service was prompt enough.

went back by van!!! ahaha. eleta’s friend daniel happened to be in town with jon tay & his brother for their friend’s bday party. so we got a free ride home! ahaha. felt quite paiseh coz it was the 1st time i met daniel and i was practically sponging off a free ride from him. it wouldn’t have been that bad if it was the 2nd time i met him but he was pretty nice. yup. but it was a sad day for me in the end because i dropped my rubber bands which i just bought in his van =\

i think i’ll go to the library tommorow. i need some mental stimulation.

Ladder 49

Wednesday, November 10th, 2004

went to watch Ladder 49 with John today. it was GREAT. i love these kinda movies. and to think John didnt wanna watch it. lol.

why do i like it?hmmm. i guess its because its nice to see people saving other people just because its their job and they want to do so out of the goodness in their hearts, some even dying in the process due to accidents. its a really feel-good show coz it just shows humanity at its best :) and yeah,i can’t say too much otherwise people will start accusing me of being their very own spoiler…

oh yeah for my fantastic lovely friends who were insinuating that i was out on a date, i’ve got one word for you. NO. its pretty hard going out on a date with someone you’ve known since primary 1 yeah. and remember, i hate boys :D

yay!

Thursday, November 4th, 2004

this is sucha nice show!!! it’s funny cute and sweet at the same time. in fact i think i may be watching it again with my sister(coz she offered to pay for the ticket ahaha)

i am SO going to get the soundtrack of this show and buy the VCD when it comes out.
do go watch it. there may be a few surprises :)
